Success in Civil Engineering and Surveying

The Challenge

Holden Engineering & Surveying, Inc. (HES) is a New Hampshire based family business, registered by Peter D. Holden and Donna I. Holden with the NH Secretary of State on July 20, 1981.

Over the years, the demand for Civil Engineering varied based on Federal, State, and Local priorities and funding. And over the years, HES full-time and part-time staff varied accordingly.

He saved every sent and received document on every project for over 50 years.

How to organize, preserve, and be able to research them long-term?

The Opportunity

Ewarenow worked with a local IT (Information Technology) expert to reconfigure a computer at the Holden Engineering office with Microsoft Windows, the community edition of MySQL, and a document scanner.

Based on Peter Holden’s requirements, Ewarenow then developed a small HES (Holden Engineering Services) application for recording:

  • Every Project, with a unique Project Number, Project Name, Dates, and other relevant information
  • Every Document, with unique Document Number, Project Number to which it belonged, dates, and other relevant information.
  • The HES application database also contains contact information about many individuals and organizations involved with projects and government agencies over the years.

Ewarenow also installed EQQ (Ewarenow Quick Query) on the same computer. Created relevant views and queries to the HES application database.
